Presidents’ Day means extra vacation time, so head to the Pocono Mountains for a refreshing getaway. Want to experience the region’s attractions, but don’t know where to start? We’ve got you covered! With the four-day itinerary suggestions below, celebrate all things to do this Presidents’ Day weekend.
Friday: Explore in and around Jim Thorpe
Morning: Take your adrenaline to the next level with Skirmish Paintball. Grab a group and battle it out, or try out some targets at the world’s premier paintball facility. Test your skills, and enjoy half-priced paintball this Presidents' Day weekend!
Afternoon: Bundle up for some winter horseback riding. Enjoy guided scenic trail rides with Deer Path Riding Stable; no experience required! With a little extra help from Mother Nature, glide through the snow-covered trails on a horse-drawn sleigh ride with Daisy Field Farm.
Evening: How about some nighttime snow tubing? It’s the easiest way for everyone to enjoy the slopes! Area ski mountains Big Boulder and Blue Mountain offer twilight tubing as late as 10 p.m. With magic carpet lifts taking you to the top, the only thing you’ll be focused on is sliding down the lanes as many times as possible.
Stay the night in historic Jim Thorpe, at places like Mountain View Suites, Hotel Switzerland and The Inn at Jim Thorpe, and wake up to next-day fun at Jim Thorpe Winterfest. From February 17 – 18, 2018, enjoy scenic train and carriage rides, downtown shopping and dining, family-friendly activities and much more.
Saturday: Journey through the heart of the Poconos
Morning: Start your engines! All-terrain vehicles are revved up and ready to roll all year-long! Enjoy guided ATV tours with Alvin’s Offroad Playground and Pocono ATVs at Memorytown USA. Weather permitting, join Pocono Outdoor Adventure Tours for snowmobiling excursions over the snowy trails.
Afternoon: Experience winter fun at Pocono TreeVentures adventure park! Open weekends, challenge yourself to an outdoor aerial course amongst the trees. Pocono TreeVentures features five courses varying in intensity with over 60 different elements boosting confidence and activity at the same time!
Shake off the cold with an authentic meal. Whether you love Asian cuisine or want to try something new, grab a bite to eat at ethnic restaurants Kanya’s Thai Orchid and Desaki.
Evening: Skiers and snowboarders the slopes are calling! Whether you prefer first chair or night skiing, you can enjoy both! The Pocono Mountains' six ski areas, like Camelback Mountain and Shawnee Mountain, have something for all abilities including world-class learning programs - if you want to get your friends and family hooked on the sport like you. Be sure to check ski and stay packages, too.
Interested in something a little warmer? No worries! It's always 84 degrees in our indoor waterpark resorts. Book an overnight stay to slide, ride, relax in a cabana, enjoy a beverage at a swim-up bar or ride the waves in a wave pool; your pseudo-summer is waiting!
Morning: Ever been snowshoeing? Now’s your chance! Take advantage of the winter season by exploring the beautiful outdoors in a group or self-guided excursion. With snow on the ground, state and local parks like Promised Land State Park offer trails for unsupervised trips open from dawn until dusk.
Afternoon: Seeking more adventure? Take on a winter hike! In the Poconos, there are over 250 hiking trails to explore year-round. Pocono Environmental Education Center offers hikes throughout the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area where you may spot a waterfall or two. Be careful of the conditions while hiking, and be prepared for the weather on your wintery trek.
Journey to Milford, and take a food break at Bar Louis at the Hotel Fauchere for house cocktails and specials. Interested in tapas? 403 Broad features shareable plates and snacks as well as traditional Italian fare.
Evening: Explore local breweries in the area. Microbreweries have popped up across the region with a focus on tasty sustainability. Jam Room Brewing Company and Wallenpaupack Brewing Company use local ingredients to handcraft beers. Like grapes, too? Don’t forget to visit Pocono wineries!
Morning: It doesn’t get much more patriotic than a bald eagle. Try to spot one while eagle watching! These majestic creatures migrate to the Pocono Mountains during the winter season to take advantage of the eco-friendly habitat. You can go on a self-guided tour, or take a trip with the Delaware Highlands Conservancy along the Upper Delaware Scenic & Recreation River and Lackawaxen River.
Interested in even more eagle action? All board The Stourbridge Line for their Eagle Explorer Limited! Enjoy a 3.5 hour round-trip train excursion while learning about bald eagles along the way. Keep your eyes peeled for a live sighting, and don't forget your camera!
Afternoon: Experience ice in a cool new way. Returning this February, join Crystal Cabin Fever for their ‘Under the Big Top’ theme. This annual event features an interactive display of 100 tons of ice in addition to demonstrations, competitions and a 50-foot dual-run ice slide. Food, music and pictures are available as well as complimentary hot chocolate and wine tasting.
Evening: Treat yourself to a nutritious and delicious foods! You can’t leave without trying our farm to table restaurants. The Settlers Inn, Cocoon Coffeehouse & Catering Company and French Manor Inn & Spa have committed to sustainably appetizing meals. These businesses continue to resource private and local ingredients to enhance signature dishes.
