Temperatures are on the rise, but that's no reason to stash your snow gear. The Pocono Mountains’ ski season is expected to stretch into April, and some of the biggest events are yet to come.

Camelback Mountain’s Annual Parking Lot Party
: Saturday & Sunday, March 19 - 20, 2016
Times: 7 a.m. - 6 p.m.
Cost: $20 per reserved parking space
Camelback’s Parking Lot Party starts off the spring ski season with a two-day tailgate bash. Highlights include live music, games and giveaways, cook-offs and tailgate-decorating competitions, plus Pond Skimming on Saturday and the Cardboard Box Derby on Sunday. Pond Skimming Action at Camelback Mountain

Time: 1:30 – 3 p.m. (Registration from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.)
Cost: Free; Donations accepted for local dog rescues
Pond Skimming is a crowd favorite at Camelback Mountain, promising feats and fails of epic proportions. Competitors ski or board down a gentle slope and attempt to “skim” a man-made pond at the bottom. Costumes are optional. Registration begins at 10 a.m. in the CBK Lodge. Learn More

Racing in the Cardboard Box Derby

Time: 1:30 – 3 p.m. (Registration from 10 a.m. – noon)
Cost: Free; Donations accepted for local dog rescues
Camelback’s Cardboard Box Derby puts creativity to the test. The rules are simple:

1. Use only paint, paper, tape and glue to turn a cardboard box into a speedy snow chariot

2. Ride it from the top of the Sunbowl to the finish line with all team members on board

Prizes are awarded for best time and best in show, and the competition is known to get serious. Previous entries have included cardboard planes, pirate ships, alligators and giant bananas. Teams of up to four are welcome. Registration starts at 10 a.m. in the CBK Lodge. Learn More

Carnival Costumes at Shawnee Mountain

Time: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. (Judging and costume parade at 1 p.m.)
Cost: Free; Full costumes required
Shawnee Mountain celebrates its 32nd Costume Carnival Day with free lift tickets and fun for all. Guests who visit the ticket window in full costume will receive a complimentary same-day pass. A costume parade at 1 p.m. includes prizes for best family, funniest, most original and best junior. Some restrictions apply.
