No. 9 Mine & Museum
Take your group back in time and into a real coal mine!Ride over 1,600 feet into the mountain. Explore an underground muleway and see a miners' hospital cut in stone that dates back to 1858. The No. 9 Mine was operated until 1972. At that time, it was the world's longest running anthracite coal mine. The Museum has items like tools, food cans and blasting equipment that belonged to the miners of No. 9. Exhibits include carved coal, historical photographs, paintings, models, a miners' kitchen replica and other artifacts. The gift shop offers books, carved coal memorabilia, t-shirts and miners' hats.
