Old Jail Museum
Do not pass Jim Thorpe, go directly to The Old Jail Museum! Hear the story of the condemned Molly Maguires and see the mysterious "handprint on the wall."
Tour the jail and hanging site of seven accused coal miners known as the Molly Maguires in the 1870s. The Old Jail Museum contains reconstructed gallows and the mysterious, enduring handprint of a prisoner who proclaimed his innocence. Built in 1871, the facility was occupied as a jail until 1995. Guided tours are offered daily from noon to 4:30pm Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day. Closed Wednesdays. Weekends only in September and October.-
