Shuman Point Natural AreaSHUMAN POINT NATURAL AREA

Owner: PPL
Location: Lake Wallenpaupack Region

This vast area of woodland is one of the last undeveloped areas around Lake Wallenpaupack. Before the lake was formed in 1926, parts of Shuman Point were farmed. Now this 300-acre woodland is a natural area set aside by PPL Corporation. It is maintained in this state for the public’s enjoyment with miles of hiking trails. The Blue Trail starts as an old road, which at one time was the main route to travel to what was then known as Wilsonville Village. The trail parallels most of the shoreline.

Toms Creek TrailTOMS CREEK TRAIL

Owner: Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area
Location: Delaware River Region

A mile-and-a-half further down Route 209 from Eshback is Toms Creek’s trailhead. Turn at the sign onto Egypt Mills Road and follow it a short distance to the Toms Creek Picnic Area. From the picnic area, an old road runs alongside the creek. It is a short hike which soon starts criss-crossing the stream. If inclined, take your shoes off, put your toes in the cold water, hobble across the rough slippery streambed and continue. About a ½ mile up this trail is a 1 mile spur over to Egypt Mills Pond. Once there, another trail loops back to the trailhead.

Our map shows the several locations in our region where it is safe and unobtrusive to view eagles. Some of the sites offer protection with viewing blinds; others are roadside pull-offs and your vehicle can act as a blind. Eagle Institute volunteers can be found at most of these viewing locations on weekends in January and February to assist with your winter eagle watching.
