Signature Golf Holes in the Poconos: Woodloch Springs & Pocono Manor
Visit classic golf courses and signature golf holes in the Pocono Mountains with PTN host Jim Hamill.
Hell’s Gate Gorge - the infamous tee shot at the par 5 #14 at the Country Club at Woodloch Springs was first up on Jim’s day. Director of Golf John Pillar joined Jim to clear the cavernous gorge on their tee shots to set up a long layup second shot on the double-dogleg hole. After both were safe, they hit their approach shots on the green and eventually made par, a good score any day on this behemoth of a hole.
At historic Pocono Manor, Jim found a far shorter and still challenging signature hole with Director of Golf Greg Wall. The par 3 #7 is downhill and under 100 yards. Jim sailed his tee shot over the green and Wall landed his safely on and went onto par. Golf legend Arnold Palmer visited Pocono Manor in 1968, and double-bogeyed the same hole his way to defeat Wall’s dad, Art Jr., who also had a successful PGA career even having won the 1959 Masters Tournament.
