For unique private dining and an amazing antique experience, you have to check out Der Jaeger in Lakeville. Deanna and the PTN team bring you along with them as they take a tour and explore what they have to offer.
Janusz and Sylvana Berghoff purchased the building which was built in the 1900’s and formally known as the Marlyne Roudge Hotel, previous guests say it was a speakeasy. After a fire burnt down half the building, the Berghoffs set to renovate the building to create a place where they could build from scratch the type of place they had in mind. They first established their business with the antiques, then Janusz wanted to add BBQ for guests to enjoy while visiting, and now the business has continued to grow and they’ve added a three table, reservation styled private dining experience. Sylvana is a trained chef from Germany who cooks all the dishes herself.
Janusz took Deanna and the team for a tour of the antiques and art which are spread throughout the building. They have some on their main floor but the bulk of it is on their second floor. There are pieces that date back from the 16th century til now and everything in between. Janusz’s love of collecting started when he was just a boy and it has evolved so much since, he shared “ I started with stamps and coins when I was about five or six years old and that progressed to what you see now currently”.
Each room they walked through had its own personality and was full of so much history.
Janusz and Sylvana have owned the building for 25 years and created such a beautiful, interesting and inviting place for their guests. Deanna shared, “I love how the building already had history and you brought the history of the antiques and art to it, which is amazing by the way. Also, it’s not your typical restaurant, it’s a very unique private dining experience amongst all this beauty, art and history.”
Sylvana responded, “That’s why I like it. We have people coming in, they make their reservation, sometimes they say, we want to come in alittle earlier to look at the antiques, ummm No, you come in, sit down, we’ll take your order and then you’ll have the time to look and it gives me the time to properly prepare everything.”
You get to order your food, go explore and sometimes if Janusz is free, you’ll get the history behind a lot of the pieces which is an absolute bonus.
Janusz told us, “We try to stick to traditional German cooking as my wife is trained in that field. We do take special orders. When you make your reservations, you can request unusual dishes.” If something isn’t typically found on their menu, they are willing to prep it and cook it for their guests while they’re dining with them.
The Berghoffs made a few dishes, family style, for the team to try and every dish was just as amazing and flavorful as the last.
You definitely have to stop into Der Jaeger for a visit and experience it for yourself. Make sure to call ahead to book your dining experience, reservations are required.
