Memories of Mr. U.

Memories of Mr. U.

“Robert "Bob" Uguccioni was a mentor and my friend. He started giving me advice before we opened Barley Creek Brewing Co. in 1995. He did a fantastic job roasting me at a United Way fundraiser where he was mercilessly funny. If you gave him a podium or a microphone - watch out. Bob has a long list of achievements and one that I loved: He was the founding "Chairman" of the Friday night Power Hour at Barley Creek. For the past 25+ years, his invitation would go out to a great group of regular (old and new) friends usually by Wednesday afternoon with the subject line:

"Meeting...Friday Night...5pm. Barley Creek...Come Early... Lots to Talk about…Good Night to come........."

On Friday Bob would arrive first. His table was ready and I would greet him and he'd ask: "How are you doing?" He would always toss out a compliment (perfect way to get one's attention) and then he would segue into some sage advice. "You know Trip...you know what you should do next..." Friends would start filtering in, and once Bob and I were all caught up, he was just getting started. There was indeed lots to talk about and the camaraderie Bob fostered and encouraged is something we all should strive to emulate. Mister U ... "Mr. Pocono” ... I am going to miss my friend, but I look forward to passing along some of the sage advice he gave me to the next generation."

“Mr. U hired me twenty-five years ago. He enjoyed reminiscing of the occasion every year when my November anniversary would come around the week of Thanksgiving. He was proud of his hire but I was prouder of what I would learn from him during his time as Executive Director of the PMVB and then post-retirement as someone who I called friend. Commitment, dedication, passionate, and funny are a few traits that immediately come to mind when I think of RU (the interoffice name we would refer to him as)."
