Hotel of Horror with Bri & Dee

Tour the Hotel of Horror, a 200-year-old resort turned walk-through seasonal attraction.

Bri & Dee: Tell us about the history of the building.

Marlo Ambrosio (co-owner): What makes us unique here at the Hotel of Horror is we are in an antiquated structure that dates back to the late 1800s. We were a grand and pristine resort in the Pocono Mountains, known as the Lake House Hotel. Here at the Hotel of Horror, you're not going to find copycat characters. We don't have a Jason or a Freddy. We are an all original cast of characters.

Deanna: How did you started in haunting, as you call it, working here at Hotel of Horror? And where do your inspirations come from?

Terry O’Donnell (“Snort Gore”): Years ago, my wife and I were just driving by, and she saw the sign ‘actors wanted.’ And 17 years later, here I am. My character has evolved into this, and this is what I am. I kind of can't get rid of it now.

Josh Mould (“Kill Joy”): I came here as a patron back in college. I went to East Stroudsburg University, right up the road. Visiting year after year, I kind of got to know some of the characters. I knew Snort before I knew him by name. It just felt like home. And there's a certain pull to the building as well, which you don't really get from a lot of other haunts.

Marlo: A lot of our collections here at The Lake House, we've spent many, many years curating. We like to source from antique shops, thrift stores, flea markets. What I'm standing next to was actually won at auction. It is an authentic ticket booth from Coney Island, New York, and we decided to do a version of Zoltar.

Brianna: Can you tell us a little bit about your characters and what people can expect when they come to see you?

Josie Rex (“Tabitha”): Well, my room's a little freaky. You might not see me at first. If you do see me, then you’ll see a little disappearing act here and there.

Valerie Wierzbicki (“Nurse Totem”): The nurse is waiting for the doctor because we are conducting experiments on aliens. They’re present everywhere, and we need to get rid of them

Caitlin Warner (“Astrid the Astronaut”): For me, I'm a very creative person. I love expressing myself creatively. I do a lot of art, photography. And this building, this place, just gives me the opportunity to get a little bit weird with it.

Marlo: We do have reports of paranormal activity here at The Lake House Hotel. I personally tell myself everything is just fine, because I spend a real lot of time here in the off season. We have two attractions under one roof: Hotel of Horror, our namesake and flagship attraction, and Altered Nightmares.

The 2024 season runs weekends from late September through early November. Visit HotelofHorror.com for more information.
