Indoor Golf Simulator at Shawnee Inn & Golf Resort
Take a swing at the brand new, high-tech golf simulator at Shawnee Inn & Golf Resort.
Colby Mitchell is golfing in Paris and Pebble Beach. He can visit more than 100 of the most famous courses worldwide, all from the Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort.
“It's a great tool, whether you're novice or experienced. It's very fun, either way,” he says.
This new, high-tech golf simulator inside The Gem and Keystone Tavern keeps Colby in the game and practicing his skills any time of year, even when Shawnee's course is covered in snow. He can check stats like launch angle and ball speed. Rental clubs are also available.
“You don't get much practice in the off-season. So, let's say you get a good deal on clubs in the middle of December and can't go out on the course and swing them, you can come here and get that practice in. Maybe you got some new golf shoes and want to get a few swings in on the driving range, you have that option as well,” Colby explains.
Make it a fun outing with friends by ordering craft brews and homemade bites from The Gem and Keystone's menu.
“The simulator is in our back tavern, which has a semi-private space. We also have a curtain so when you're playing back there the curtain is drawn, giving you your own private space. The bartender will bring your drinks back there and the food runner will run your food back to you. It’s the full restaurant experience, immersed with the golf simulator,” explains Tommy O’Malley, general manager, The Gem and Keystone Tavern.
Steps from the simulator, the Shawnee Inn's iconic golf course was crafted by famous architect A.W. Tillinghast, hosting major events like the 1938 PGA championship and legends like Sam Snead, Arnold Palmer, and Jackie Gleason. In fact, Arnold met his first wife, Winnie, at Shawnee!
“This is a special place and has incredible history. The course has been around for over 100 years. We have 27 championship holes, 24 of which are on an island in the middle of the Delaware River, which makes us completely unique to all golf courses in the United States,” says J.J. Astromsky, golf group sales manager.
And, now open for year-round golfing thanks to the permanent bridge recently installed over the Delaware River. The old wooden bridge had to be removed every season and was damaged in high water events, limiting access to golf island. But even though golf is now year-round, it is still weather permitting, while the golf simulator is weather-proof.
“I look forward to communicating to my groups that throughout the cold months, there's an option to still visit Shawnee and do something golf related. Perhaps some of the groups could be only four guys wanting to come out in the winter, but they can do that and play on the simulator. They can play other places around the world but still enjoy Shawnee, which they've grown to love so much,” Astromsky adds.
Colby also loves Shawnee and grew up on its course. He recalls, “my dad has always golfed, my grandpa has always golfed, so they took me out here. And now I golf more than both of them."
Colby adds, “we can't play all winter, so when we get back out there in the spring, it's like starting all over again. But now we can play all winter thanks to the simulator. So when we get out there in the spring, it will almost be like mid-summer form.”
