Daniel's passion for the outdoors runs deep. "From a young age, I’ve always been passionate about nature," he shares. "I started a bike shop in the basement of my house when I was just a kid. Later on, I worked for a company called Northeast Sports, where we sold outdoor gear and did bike mechanics. That experience really ignited my love for outdoor recreation."

That early spark evolved into something bigger. Daniel now owns Sawmill Cycles, a full-service bike shop that works closely with Northeast Wilderness Experience. "They’re partner companies," he explains. "We decided to separate them for branding purposes, but we operate closely. Sawmill Cycles handles retail, sales and service for bikes, kayaks, camping, backpacking gear, and more...while Northeast Wilderness Experience focuses on outfitting and rentals."

What makes Northeast Wilderness Experience stand out? According to Daniel, it’s their comprehensive approach. “We’re not just a company that sells gear or rents it out and sends you on your way. We use the products ourselves. We’re out there with our guests, which helps us understand what their experience will be like.”

From guided tours to gear rentals to curated camping experiences, the company is a true one-stop shop for outdoor adventure.

But the real magic lies in the customized experiences they offer. "We’re a custom-guided company," Daniel says. "We don’t really offer cookie-cutter programs. If you have a specific type of adventure in mind, we’ll work with you to create it. A typical weekend might include arriving Friday night to a pre-set campsite and yes, we’ll even build the campfire for you, then spending Saturday on the river or hiking the local trails. We can rent tents, set up sites, and modify trip lengths based on what kind of outing you want."

"The most rewarding part," Daniel says, "is seeing people light up with excitement, learning how to do something new in the outdoors, and creating a space where they feel safe and confident to do it again on their own."

Even on a slightly overcast day, the beauty of the river shines through. “This kind of weather is great for the river,” Daniel notes. “There’s no shade out there, and with the reflective light, sunny days can be intense. But when it’s a little overcast, it’s perfect, cooler, more comfortable, and still a great workout.”
