Stourbridge Line & LGSR Train Tours

Keep the autumn fun going and hop aboard for two train tours with Bri & Dee!

There are plenty of ways to enjoy the ever-changing scenery in the Pocono Mountains, including by train. Join Bri & Dee for a train tour from two of our small towns, Honesdale and Jim Thorpe.

The Stourbridge Line in Honesdale is one of two passenger trains in the region, offering a variety of excursions from Easter through December.

“We have a princess and superhero train, pumpkin patch rides, murder mysteries. The dinner train is our best-selling event, and fall foliage is probably the best season of all. On the Christmas and winter trains, you see a whole different look. Every season has its own beauty,” said Jeff Hiller, conductor.

Located in downtown Honesdale, you can ride the train, eat, shop, and more. “I always tell people, especially if they’re travelling from a distance, that Honesdale has so much to offer. Come early and you can easily spend an entire day in town,” Jeff added.

While on board, riders will get a history lesson from passionate conductors, such as Jeff. He said, “I think it’s a job where you never stop learning. It’s a great job, I love what I do, and when people like what they do it’s not work.”

The Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway (LGSR) in Jim Thorpe is another popular attraction taking riders on a 70-minute, 7.5-mile journey with scenic views at every turn.

“We go through the Lehigh Gorge State Park along the Lehigh River with historical narration along the way. It’s great for naturalists and train fans, we see a lot of sights including waterfalls and a few rail bridges," said Stan Nestor, car host.

There are different seating options including the popular open-air car, standard coaches, the first-class lounge, and dome cars with air conditioning and heating.

“Beginning in October, we have excursions dedicated to fall foliage that operate daily. People love seeing the different colors on those rides. Right after Thanksgiving we start our Santa train with cars decorated for Christmas. Santa and his helpers make a visit, we give treats to the kids, and we play Christmas music,” said Stan.

Located in downtown Jim Thorpe, the train can be one part of your overall experience for the day, or a longer stay. “There are restaurants, small shops, different tours you can take in Jim Thorpe including the Asa Packer Mansion and Old Jail Museum,” Stan explained.

Stan is one of the friendly faces helping guests on and off the train, collecting tickets, and giving narration along the way. “I talk to them, find out where they’re from. People come from all over the world, it’s amazing,” he added.
