Walker's Tree Farm
Chop down the perfect Christmas tree at Walker’s multi-generation family farm in Lehighton.
The holiday season arrived in the Poconos, and with it came a new tradition for Pocono Television Network hosts Bri and Dee: cutting down their very own fresh Christmas tree. After countless Bri and Dee adventures, this was a first for them, an experience they were excited to share as they set out to “pick out the perfect tree” and later show viewers, where they put it and how they dressed her up.
Their journey took them to Walker’s Tree Farm in Lehighton, just outside downtown Jim Thorpe, where they met Diana Yeakel, whose family has been rooted, in the Christmas tree business for generations. “My great-grandfather in 1920 started a Christmas tree farm,” Diana explained. “And then it went to my father, and now we help out my dad. I have an older brother and a younger sister. So there’s three of us.”
The farm spans 100 acres, welcoming hundreds of families each season. As Diana described, visitors “are going to find many types of trees, Fraser fir, Douglas fir, Concolor fir,” the latter popular for its “citrusy smell.” The farm also offers blue spruce and white spruce varieties. Guests receive “a saw, a measuring stick, and a wagon,” and are free to explore the grounds in search of the tree that fits just right. For anyone who needs assistance, staff members are ready to help cut and haul.
Bri and Dee set out among the rows to search for their perfect tree, It became an adventure in itself, filled with laughter, commentary, and determination. Eventually, with effort and teamwork, the tree was theirs.
Back at the barn, Diana shared more about what the farm offers beyond trees. “All our wreaths are handmade. I make them, my sister decorates them. It’s kind of a family effort,” she said. Wreaths range from 16 inches to an impressive five feet, and the family takes custom orders. Inside the gift shop, children and adults alike enjoy watching the model train circle overhead, and shoppers can pick out their favorite ornament to put on their Christmas tree for the year.
The farm also offers kissing balls, grave blankets, logs for centerpieces, and other seasonal décor. Its offerings extend into other times of year as well: fall tractor-drawn wagon rides through foliage, horse-drawn wagon rides the weekend after Thanksgiving, and even a wedding venue set against the picturesque backdrop of the farm. “You pick whatever location you want as the backdrop for your ceremony,” Diana explained.
With their perfect tree in tow, Bri and Dee returned to the Pocono Television Network studio to decorate and feature ornaments from some of their favorite Pocono places. What a fun experience to cut down your very own Christmas tree grown right here in the Pocono Mountains. Make sure to add Walker's Tree Farm to your list and turn your visit into a new tradition as well.
