New scholarship award & student support program introduced
The Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau (PMVB) has awarded a variety of 2023 scholarships totaling $9,240 to nine recent high school graduates and undergraduate students pursuing degrees in or related to the hospitality and tourism industry. The annual program is one of the ways tourism continues giving back in the Poconos (see next page for recipients).
New for 2023, the PMVB has established the Robert Uguccioni Memorial Scholarship in honor of one of the region’s strongest advocates and tourism leaders who passed away in late 2022. This new scholarship compliments the Bob Uguccioni Endowed Scholarship, which was created in 2015.
The PMVB also offers the newly established Student Membership Program, allowing students to enhance their career growth in tourism, hospitality, and related industries. The complimentary program helps students gain career insights, network with local professionals and potential mentors, as well as access various PMVB benefits.
“We are proud to partner and collaborate regularly with regional educational institutions to support our future leaders and workforce through internships, scholarships, and initiatives such as the Student Membership Program,” said Chris Barrett, President/CEO of the Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau. “The tourism industry makes for a promising career, especially here in the Poconos, providing sustainable wages and endless opportunity for advancement.”
Scholarships are available to East Stroudsburg University (ESU) and Northampton Community College (NCC) students as well as high school or technical institute seniors from the four-county Pocono region who are entering a two-year or four-year college or university. Recipients are pursuing degrees in hospitality and tourism or supporting fields such as business, graphic design, or videography.
Proceeds from the upcoming 12th Annual Dario Belardi Golf Tournament will benefit the PMVB Scholarship Program.
