New for 2024: NCC award renamed after late dean, Dr. Matthew Connell
The Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau (PMVB) continues to encourage and invest in future leaders of the tourism and hospitality industry, as well as related fields, by once again offering annual scholarship funding to high school seniors and undergraduate students.
Applications are being accepted through Tuesday, April 30, 2024. Eligible students are encouraged to apply as soon as possible at PoconoMountains.com/Scholarships.
Scholarships are available to East Stroudsburg University (ESU) and Northampton Community College (NCC) students, as well as high school or technical institute seniors from the four-county Pocono region who are entering a two-year or four-year college or university.
New for 2024, the scholarship for NCC’s Pocono Campus (formerly known as the Monroe Campus) has been renamed to honor longtime dean Dr. Matthew J. Connell, who passed away in 2022. The PMVB Endowed Scholarship is just one way Dr. Connell’s memory will continue to live on among future generations of students and the entire Pocono community.
“Dr. Connell impacted countless students, staff, and faculty during his 25+ years at NCC. We are thrilled to offer an endowed scholarship to continue his legacy, similar to the memorial scholarship created last year to honor Robert Uguccioni, another beloved community champion who led the PMVB for 40 years and helped cultivate the region’s ever-growing tourism industry, which students benefit from today,” said Chris Barrett, President/CEO, Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau.
“Receiving a PMVB scholarship was an honor and allowed me to focus more on my studies, and less on how I was going to pay for it. I was also fortunate enough to intern with the PMVB. I could not have asked to work with a more supportive and professional group of people during my experience,” said Angela O’Brien, past recipient.
The PMVB also offers a Student Membership Program to help area students gain career insights, network with local professionals and mentors in the hospitality industry, and access various PMVB benefits at no cost.
