Summer Drone Tour of the Pocono Mountains

Discover the Changing Seasons in the Pocono Mountains from the PTN Drone

JIM: Every few months here in the Pocono Mountains, the seasons and the scenery change. That includes right here outside the visitors center and train station in Jim Thorpe, also known as the Little Switzerland of America. And it's pretty easy to tell why. Check it out from way up high!

Jim Thorpe is nestled in the Lehigh River Valley, with whitewaters carving their way alongside the railroad and the D&L Trail. The streets of Jim Thorpe feature architecture straight out of the movies, and the town is near three friendly neighborhoods: Lehighton, Weissport along the D&L Trail, and Lansford, home to the No. 9 Coal Mine and Museum.

And so no matter if it's spring, summer, or fall, with such warm weather outside here in the Pocono Mountains, you can get outdoors and have a lot of fun. One great spot is the Pocono Beverage Trail, which includes Barley Creek Brewing Company here in Tannersville—at Pint Size Park where you can swing for the fences.

Farther up the road is Camelback Resort, featuring Camelbeach in the summer and Camelback Mountain Adventures. In colder months, it transforms for tubing and skiing. Check out Big Pocono State Park and Camelback from a drone's vantage point in both summer and winter.

Another one of my favorite pastimes here in the warmer months in the Pocono Mountains is, of course, golf. We have some of the best golf courses around, including Woodloch Springs. This 18-hole course features championship golf and the challenging par-5 3rd hole.

From this perspective, you can see the homes woven into the forest at Woodloch Springs, along with the golf course, making for a challenging but rewarding round with fellow golfers. Drone pilot Zane Shupp shares his experience:

"Flying a drone out here on a golf course, especially one with this elevation and diversity, is very fun and a little nerve-wracking. There is a lot of elevation gain and loss, which you have to consider,” said Shupp. “But like all other areas around the Poconos, it is beautiful this time of year when everything is green, lush, and full of surprises around every corner. On a day like today, it's absolutely beautiful out here."

JIM: As we mentioned earlier, the seasons do change across the Pocono Mountains, and there's no better place to view that than from way up high. At Irving Cliff in Honesdale, you can see the small town, just like many other small towns throughout the area, where all of this green eventually changes to vibrant fall colors. It's a sight for all to enjoy.

The Poconos is well known as a destination for fall foliage, especially midweek when leaf-peepers are more scarce. These are the kinds of views we're used to seeing across the region, around lakes, rivers, mountains, and small towns.
