December means winter, and with that comes holiday festivities, family activities and snow. With boundless things to do in the Poconos, you'll have to decide what to try first! Read on for ten activities you can experience in the Pocono Mountains.

1. Holiday Events

Celebrate the season with family and friends in the Pocono Mountains. Holiday events kick off November 23, and continue throughout December. Whether you want to explore decorated towns or meet Mr. and Mrs. Claus, there's something for everyone to enjoy. 

Jim Thorpe’s Olde Time Christmas is a yearly tradition commemorated in one of the region’s historic towns. Enjoy local shopping, live entertainment and free family events the first three weekends in December. Hawley Winterfest is another annual holiday event where patrons can listen to carolers, enjoy food and drink vendors and see ice-carving demonstrations on December 8 – 10, 2017.


2. Breweries

If you haven't tried Pocono craft beer, you might want to make time this December. Microbreweries are popping up across the region, each bringing a distinct flavor to the area. Seasonal stouts and crisp pilsners await!

Jam Room Brewing Company uses local ingredients to help create their beer. Wallenpaupack Brewing Company uses locally sourced foods to prepare in-house food dishes. 3. Escape Room

Think you've got what it takes to solve the mystery? Grab the gang, and head to an escape room this December! Follow a series of themed clues to try and get out in just 60 minutes. Trust us, you'll want to experience this if you already haven't.

Put your teamwork and communications skills to the test at Escape It! Ranging in difficulty, decode the Titanic, Apocalypse and Vacancy rooms in your race against time. Work together to unravel the puzzle at Klues Escape Room. Choose one of four escape rooms, and experience an interactive challenge unlike any other!


4. Shooting Range

Step out of your comfort zone, and try something new this winter. Stop by a shooting range to learn firearms education, safety and training. In addition to a gun range, 3B’s Indoor Shooting Range also has an archery range and virtual simulator.

During the winter, Sunset Hill Shooting Range is open Thursdays through Mondays. Threat Assessment and Tactical Solutions Group, LLC simulates real-life threat scenarios and conducts shooting exercises as an enhancement to traditional shooting range sessions.


5. Restaurants

Whether you’re interested in family-friendly dining or a brew pub stop, the Poconos’ has the restaurants for you. The region is also home to many farm to table restaurants that locally source and produce ingredients to help create delicious dishes.

Mountain Creek Grill/Sports Lounge, Bailey’s Rib and Steakhouse and Compton’s Pancake House Inc. offer accommodations and menu options for all. Slopeside Pub & Grill and Roadies Restaurant and Bar provide appetizing meals with breathtaking scenic overlooks.

'Tis the season to go shopping! Explore what craft and specialty shops have to offer or find a bargain at an outlet store. And here in Pennsylvania, there is no sales tax on clothing. So, go ahead, and splurge a little. You’re on vacation, after all!

Penny Lane Candies and Candles sells not only what their name suggests, but unique gifts and country décor too. The Loft, Pocono Mountains' largest ski and snowboard shop, offers a wide variety of rentals and equipment as well as replacement hats and gloves.

9. Snow Tubing

Que the snow, it’s time for some tubing! The activity suitable for just about everyone, and the only skill required is having a good time, snow tubing is the easiest way to conquer the slopes. Hit the lanes after dark with Camelback’s Galatic Snowtubing for an LED light show that illuminates the night sky.

No snow? No problem! Experience the only all-season tubing facility in the Pocono Mountains this winter at Blue Lightning. This tubing outfitter provides two 400-foot tubing lanes with a magic carpet lift that is open Saturdays and Sundays in December.


10. Horseback Riding

Bundle up and enjoy the crisp, winter season while horseback riding. Fernwood Winter Fun Center, Deer Path Riding Stable and Malibu Dude Ranch provide guided tours throughout acres of undisturbed property.

With a little help from mother nature, sleigh rides are also available in the Poconos. Daisy Field Farm and Manor Sports at Pocono Manor offer horse drawn sleigh rides through the freshly fallen snow. Participate in an old-fashioned custom through the region’s beauteous, winter wonderland.
